Looking for a rental house with a not perfect past.

Have you tried to get a rental when you have issues in your past, causing every landlord to turn you away?  Because life hasn't been the easiest doesn't mean I deserve to be homeless!

Issues like prior evictions, judgements, a large dog over 40 lbs (the sweetest American Bulldog who is 100 lbs), having a cat, low credit score and being a server without a guaranteed income of three times the rent.  They want a non-refundable pet fee of $150 to $250 EACH pet.. WHAT?? The dog just lays around and the cat is declawed and spayed and lays around too.  The application fee (for each adult) is ridiculous...What's the point, they will deny me anyway.

They say evictions are supposed to fall off your rental history report after 7 years.  As far as I can tell, we don't get a free copy of our rental report (like you do with your credit).

Potential landlords are judging me because life has happened!

It's not like I am trying to get a fancy highend place.

All the decent places as per size, amenities, price, etc., are either a scam or in a HIGH CRIME neighborhood.

How is the judgement cast upon me and my past fair or revelant to today's situation.?
